What will happen if I don't adapt the AGM, EFB battery and reset the BMS?

If you do not adapt (register) a new AGM or EFB battery and do not reset the BMS (Battery Management System), the car will continue to work, but it often leads to problems and a shorter battery life. Here is what can actually happen:
⚠️ 1. Improper charging BMS “thinks” that it is still the old battery and: will charge according to the old profile (voltage/current) may overcharge or undercharge 👉 Especially critical for AGM, because they require a different regime than standard batteries.
🔋 2. Shortened battery life AGM/EFB batteries are sensitive to incorrect charging without adaptation they can wear out much faster (even 2–3 times)
🚗 3. Start-Stop system may not work the system relies on BMS if it is not reset → it may: not activate Start-Stop or do it at inappropriate times
⚡ 4. Errors and warnings possible are: "low voltage" messages errors in electronics strange behavior of consumers (headlights, air conditioning, etc.)
📉 5. Incorrect state assessment (SoC / SoH) BMS monitors: SoC (state of charge) SoH (state of health) Without reset: the system will think that the battery is "old" will limit functions unnecessarily
🧠 When is it MANDATORY? Adaptation should be done if:
you change regular → AGM you change AGM → AGM (new) you have a car with Start-Stop you have a newer car (especially BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen)
🛠️ What if you don't do it right away?
the car won't break right away but you risk the battery and electronics in the long run ✔️ Conclusion
👉 It's not fatal right away, but it's highly recommended to do an adaptation
👉 This is a quick procedure (5–10 min with diagnostics), but it saves a lot of trouble
